While the Khulisa team is doing TO4 fieldwork training for over 150 fieldworkers across three groups, communication has been of the utmost importance. Team meetings are held at the start of the day, and at the end of the day. Communication is ongoing over WhatsApp across the 3 training rooms to keep track of where the facilitators need to be, what items have been covered, and what still needs to cover.
Here are the main points to focus on during team meetings:
- Reflect on the agenda. Make sure that the timing, facilitation and content still applies to the training. This may change daily and the team will need to adapt quickly.
- Monitor the progress of the learning. Are the participants building knowledge, increasing skill and is there depth of engagement?
- All facilitators must have an opportunity to share their thoughts and reflect on the learning. The different experiences and perspectives potentially deepen the learning experience not only for the fieldworkers, but for facilitators too.
- Allow facilitators to reflect on their own skills, energy levels and wellbeing. Don’t forget to ask how they are doing!
The team may be tired at the end of the day, but a short check-in helps build the team and deepen learning.
