Home » Khulisa and Partners Release New Report on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) in South Africa

The first report from a comprehensive multi-year, multi-sectoral, and multidisciplinary Trafficking in Person (TIP) study has been released. Khulisa in partnership with LASER PULSE, Purdue University, the University of Witwatersrand, supported by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), conducted research between 2020 and 2022 on the scope of TIP in South Africa. The study’s aim was to supply evidence on the nature and magnitude of TIP in South Africa to policy makers in the South African Government and to development partners, implementing partners and service providers.

This report entitled ‘Research into The Nature and Scope of Trafficking In Persons in South Africa: Prevalence Insights from the Criminal Justice System and Relevant Reporting Mechanisms’, analyzed available data and/or lived experiences related to incidents of human trafficking in South Africa that were reported in South Africa’s Criminal Justice System. The report shows that victims and perpetrators of human trafficking are significantly undercounted in both research and practice.
