As announced last week, Khulisa and its partners released their report on early grade reading benchmarks in Tshivenḓa, one of South Africa’s official languages, at an event in Pretoria, South Africa, on November 16th. The report establishes benchmarks for Tshivenḓa readers in grades 1, 2, 3, and 6, emphasizing alphabetic knowledge, emergent fluency, and adequate comprehension. Tshivenḓa is the 11th of South Africa’s 11 official languages to be benchmarked.
The final report has been published on the USAID Development Experience Clearinghouse (DEC) and is available to the general public. We encourage our readers to download the report, which is filled with useful information about the importance of reading benchmarks and how our team established them.
