Creating an Evidence Gap Map: Where to Start?

Home » Creating an Evidence Gap Map: Where to Start?

We recently published a blog post about an Evidence Gap Map (EGM) of research and evaluations related to multi-sectoral nutrition in Zambia, which the Khulisa team created for the Scaling Up Nutrition Learning and Evaluation (SUN LE) program. This EGM provides an easy way to see all the nutrition research conducted in Zambia, allowing users to quickly identify relevant research and areas needing more research.

Creating an EGM covering such a wide range of subject matter is a daunting process. The first question is: Where to start?

For our team, the answer was to look for guidance from other organizations specializing in evidence review. Our most important sources were: 1) the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3IE) guide to evidence gap maps; and 2) the JBI Scoping Review Network. These resources helped the team define the scope of the Zambia Nutrition EGM and gave us a road map to follow.

Keep an eye out for more EGM tips in the coming weeks.
