One of the earliest gender analysis frameworks, the Gender Roles Framework or Gender Analysis Framework, was developed by the Harvard Institute for International Development in collaboration with the Women In Development office of USAID in 1984.


During its humanitarian response in Syria, CARE has developed its own gender analysis system called Rapid Gender Analysis (RGA) which is applicable to crisis contexts. According to Oxfam, RGA has now been used in more than 50 crises around the world and is featured as a good practice in the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Gender Handbook.
