Evaluation and research are closely related (see our previous #EvalTuesdayTip here). In this article, author Dana Linnell Wanzer describes five potential relationships between evaluation and research.  This construct will help evaluators and researchers to identify and communicate more clearly which model fits their working relationship.  The five include: A) evaluation as a subset of research, B) research as a subset of evaluation, C) evaluation and research as interchangeable concepts, D) evaluation and research as end points on a continuum and E) evaluation and research overlapping like a Venn diagram.
