Aflotoxins, a significant health threat in Zambia, are dangerous toxins produced by certain fungi, found on agricultural crops like maize, peanuts, cottonseed, and tree nuts. As part of the Scaling Up Nutrition Learning and Evaluation (SUN LE) program, Khulisa and its partners conducted a cross-sectional survey of smallholder maize and groundnut growers in Zambia to identify gaps in the knowledge and application of aflatoxin-associated agricultural management practices.

A journal article about this study will be published in the December 2023 issue of Food Control, and we’re pleased to announce a preview of the article has been posted online. Four of the eight article authors are Khulisa staff members: Matthews Onyango, Patricia Sakala, Mary Pat Selvaggio, and Edna Berhane.

Keep an eye out for the full publication in December 2023.
